Your adventure on the Cahabón River will be guided by members of the Association of Tourism and Ecological Development of Saquijá (ADETES). We are a 100% Mayan Q'eqchi community, and have received professional training from international rafting instructors and the Red Cross of Guatemala.
Our training has prepared us to provide a top quality service that will be safe and fun for all levels of rafters. In addition to our first aid training, we have received extensive theoretical and practical training in the art of white water rafting.
We have put a high priority on this training so that all of our visitors will be able to enjoy their adventure and know they are in the safest of hands.
On top of this training, all of our guides are locals who were born and raised on the Cahabon River. Therefore, they are not only providing you with a tour of the river, it is actually a tour of their home. They will be able to tell you all the local folklore surrounding the river, their original names for the wildlife, and other stories of their lives on the river.
All of the income from this project goes directly to benefit the economy and well being of the community of Saquija. ADETES is a grassroots community organization, and it is by providing this service to you that they are able to improve their lives and the lives of their children.
